Enjoyable for the most part; picks up momentum half-way and then delivers an exciting ending, February 6, 2013

I like this author’s writing style, I like this zombie/post-apocalyptic world she created and I do want to read more of it, but SKIN ended up being a fair/okay kind of read for me, for the most part. Not bad, not in the least, but some things did hinder my complete enjoyment of the story:

The h really got on my nerves, has a totally TSTL moment (almost quite literally), and it’s not until the last part of the story that we see her emerge with the right kind of backbone. I’m all for a woman being assertive, but it needs to make sense to me and not make me roll my eyes. Personally, I’m not going to run from my one true protector, not with zombies running about outside, only to prove a point to my captor that I can do what I want and take care of myself.

I wasn’t digging how the author gave me the coercion/capture theme. I’m very picky about capture theme, one of my favorite themes, and while I wasn’t expecting it to be hardcore, I was expecting it to deliver more psychological grit. While I loved this sexy Aussie hero as the captor, I did need to see deeper into him and feel that sense of coercion more. Just not enough there for me personally, but I admit I’m very demanding about this theme. I didn’t feel the connection between h and H, at least not all the way. Got a bit more understanding and connection/romance there toward the end, but I would have liked more of that throughout the story.

I do feel the pacing was off. The first half of the story really struggled to hold my attention, and I actually decided to DNF it, but then came back to it several days later. And I’m glad I did, because the second half did pick up, all the real action and excitement and interest happens in that last part of the story. Those last several chapters were really good and this is what leads me to give the story a 3 star rating. It went from boring to interesting in 0 to 60. But it would have been nice if I’d felt that anticipation from first page to last.

Overall, the story did manage to snag my attention and keep me reading once I came back to it. I’m glad I did pick it back up and read that second half. We see old characters again (Flesh), some really exciting things knock off, and we discover that an alarming behavior to the zombies is developing. All this does make me want to read book 3, as the story does leave off with a complete romance for the main couple but it does leave off with the general cast of characters in an even more dangerous situation and with some good-feeling tension. I do think you can read SKIN as a standalone, and while not completely satisfied with how this story worked for me, I liked enough of it to be intrigued and to want to check out the next book in order to find out what happens next.

LOVED her first book and pre-ordered Skin. I liked the hero but the heroine I wanted to bite her myself just to get her out of the story. If you like an argumentative Kate (taming of the shrew)kind of girl then you will like her.

Would have liked more story about the ending of the school. Kind of dropped the ball on that.

I did like meeting some of the previous characters but overall I was left wanting on this follow up. I will still buy her next installment but . . . .

If you loved FLESH then this one will not disappoint. Taking place in the same zombie apocalypse, but with different protagonists, SKIN does a nice job of blending a love story fit for an end of the world scenario.

Oh, thank you PetNaturals! I had a dog with terribly ichy skin. I took her to the vet and the vet suggested omega 3. She is a picky little 10 pound dog and couldn’t get her to eat any of the omega 3 supplements. Then I stumbled on to these soft chews. She loves them! I give her just half of one a day, since she is so small, and her skin is so much better now. She itches less and her skin isn’t all dried out and red. The chews worked so well for her that I started to give them to my other dog. He is also 10 pounds and gets half of a chew each day. He didn’t have an skin problems, but he had really fine hair-like fur. His coat is much thicker now and even the groomer asked me what I was feeding him because she noticed the difference and was impressed by his fuller coat. I didn’t change his food, so it must be the Skin and Coat chews.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What’s this?)

One of my dogs has been suffering from lackluster coat and dandruff (which makes her itch like crazy). Her diet is the same as the other dogs (Taste of the Wild), so I have struggled to find something to treat the dandruff (shampoos are a quick fix, but I don’t want to bathe her every other day, which can also dry her skin out). These supplements have actually made a difference. I was skeptical at first, but she seems to be scratching a lot less than she was before the supplements. Perhaps it is all in my mind, but her dandruff seems to have lessened due to more nutrients going to her skin and coat. She also loves to eat the supplements. They look and smell like little chewy bones, so she thinks she is getting a treat. One of my dogs (the picky one) won’t go near them, though.

My biggest concern is that these say one supplement for every 25 lbs of dog per day. My dogs are 10-15 lbs. so I have to cut them in half (I am very wary of overdosing on supplements. I would appreciate graded sizes for different breeds of dogs (small, medium, large) so that I didn’t have to cut them in half, but that is just one small concern- not anything too serious. Otherwise, I hope it keeps working because her itchiness is driving us both crazy!

I have a dog with summer/fall allergies which leave her rolling, scratching and chewing herself from June to October. Even with flea and tick repellents and frequent bathing the problems continue. So I decided to add this product to her diet as well as that of our 15 year old dog. The ingredients seem healthy. The dogs both love the taste. The price is pretty reasonable. I don’t expect miracles, but hope that its use will alleviate some of the distress I have seen in our allergic dog. After a couple of weeks of use I seem some diminished itching so I’ll keep using it. It is a good alternative to prescription products that can be overkill given the ingredients they contain. I also like the clear information put on the package by the manufacturer to guide me and others in usage. The company making the product seems to focus on quality pet products. Works for me.
